2008 997 GT3 with SharkWerks 3.9L RSS Suspension and Guard LSD

This meteor gray 2008 997 GT3 came into us for the Shark Werks 3.9L motor upgrade, a Guard Limited Slip, and a handful of other go-faster bits.

The car's first stop is our chassis lift, where we inspect the vehicle and begin the initial disassembly that leads to the motor removal.

A quick fast forward and the motor is removed from the car, its layers are dissected and set aside, and the case is mounted on an engine stand. This 3.6L had over 15,000 miles and many track events, yet still looked fresh inside.

Larger bore pistons are installed to give the extra displacement along with EVOMS head steads.

The water jackets, heads and upper valvetrain components are installed as layers of a cake.

Shark Werks / EVOMS spec camshafts are installed for more top end power and higher RPM efficiency.

The remaining motor components and accessories are installed and buttoned up. A 14-lb single mass lightweight flywheel is installed (from a GT3RS model) to give better throttle response and acceleration.

While the transmission is out, the OEM limited slip differential is sent to Guard Transmission for a 60/40 LSD upgrade with upgraded clutch packs.

The ECU is tuned by Todd @ EVOMSit using the customer's requested features and performance data from our development on "Kermit" with its 3.9L:

While on the lift, adjustable rear links and toe-steer kit are installed with monoball bushings, to allow further adjustment of alignment and improved cornering response.

All ready for a first test drive and initial break-in miles.

Another 3.9L in the distance...

And here she is, ready for take off!

A few weeks after completion of this 3.9L project and with only a handful of practice events, the owner proceeded to successfully participate in the 2010 Global Tuner Grand Prix with a podium 2nd place finish in the "Tuner Class". Despite going up against some very stiff competition including a twin-supercharged Novitec Ferrari Scuderia and tuned 996 GT2, 2010 997.2 GT3RS and GT3s, he also laid down the quickest qualifying time of the weekend in his class. More importantly he was able to improve upon his previous personal best in 3.6L trim by roughly 2 seconds in 3.9 modified mode by setting down a 1 minute 36.1 second qualifying time in damp/wet/hazardous conditions. Hats off and well done indeed sir! A year later he clocked a personal best of 1 minute 34.8 seconds!

On the grid:

And finally, some SharkWerks 3.9L track cred delivered by J. Menczer on the far left in 2nd place (behind by only .1 second to the winning Viper ACR). Great driving and thanks for flying with us!
